There is a huge variety of gearboxes available to suit differing engines, wheel sizes etc. The diesel transmissions have the tallest gearing.

As with the engines, VAG transmissions are identified by a 3 letter code. For example, my Superb has a 5 speed transmission type GGB, which gives 33 mph/1000 engine rpm in top with 205/55 x 16 tyres. It has the tallest gearing of all the 5 speed transmissions made.

All of these are very well documented on the Internet if you make a search. Fitting a "petrol" transmission to a diesel will result in a hopelessly undergeared vehicle.

thanks for the reply just another quick one mine is an awx engine code and a ggb gearbox .would then then any of the1.9 diesel gearbox`s fit from 2001 to 2005
