Volvo V50 1.6 petrol or diesel? - V50 1.6 - Ed V

SWMBO has suddenly got into her head that a Volvo V50 ticks many of her boxes. A three or four year old one seems a decent price and reader reviews are fair too. Obviously, the brand plays its part for her too.

Which of the smaller 1.6 engined models is the better bet, diesel or petrol? Can't see the point in getting a 2 litre, as buring rubber isn't her, nor my, thing.

Any views gratefully received.

Not sure what engine is used in the petrol version,but the 1.6 diesel is the Ford/Psa unit that is found in Focus models.

The very same engine,but only seems to affect the Focus models from 2005 -8.Later models appear ok.hth

Around 10,000, mostly local, with occasional 250 miles round trips.

Too few miles and too much local travel to suit a a diesel unless you much prefer it and can take it for a regular high speed run to keep the dpf behaving itself.

Search for a 1.8 petrol V50. The 1.6 petrol is underpowered and not very economical, as you have to work it hard.
