VW LUPO 1999 - VW Lupo VED this year - GNJlupo

Afternoon, My girlfriend has just taxed her Lupo (1.7SDI 1999) and been charged £225, an increase of nearly £200 on last year. The car only emits 119gr of CO2 and so we have always benefited from cheap tax. Is this massive increase correct? The literature appears to suggest it is after the last budget...Thanks. George

Changes to duty are menioned in the Finanace Act 2013

Look at Sect 187 (1)(a) £220 up to £225?

As it was first registered before 1 March 2001 it is not taxed according to co2 but on engine size.

It was already over £200 last year so I think you are mistaken or there has been some cockup. Perhaps it was only taxed for 6 months last time?

The rates based on CO output only apply to cars registered after 2001 thus the 119 CO deos not apply to your 1999 Lupo and never has.

For an engine above 1549cc the current rate is £225, last year it was £220 thus has increased by £5.

If you really paid £30 last year keep quiet about it.
