Interferance Engine's (cam belt) - daveyK_UK

Does anyone still make / use them?

Im told all Fiats are now non interferance.

Have all manufacturers now gone to non interferance should the cam belt snap?

I would have thought it was the other way round. To get in the lower tax bands and reduce emissions there is little choice but to run things at their optimum - with pistons and valves sharing the same space, but hopefully not at the same time!.

Yes. Non interference requires either:

a.) low compression ratio

b.) Huge valve relief cut-outs in the piston crown. The former is bad for efficiency, the latter for emissions.

Either is undesirable for OEMs.
