Golf 1.4 TSI ('58 plate) - Golf 1.4 TSI gearbox - James Collard

9 months ago I purchased a Golf 1.4 TSI with 7 speed DSG gearbox from a reputable and respected VW franchise. The vehicle commutes 60 miles per day mainly on country 'A' roads. At 32,000 miles it started making unusual noises and inspection has revealed that there are mechanical faults on both clutches and that the diff bearing has gone in the box. I am informed that the replacement will be £4,500 though there might be a 'contribution' from VW of £1,000. Apparently, this gearbox and clutches are a 'sealed for life' unit and should be maintenance free. Is there any chance that this gearbox was 'not fit for purpose' and that I might be able to get a more advantageous fresponse from VW?

7sp DSG has faults so use it when talking to VW.
