Renault Megane cab - (non) self cancelling indicators - michaeljames

Indicators will not self cancel.

fair enough-a new switch i thought.

Maybe not.

Apparently needs a complete new consule unit at about £260.

I'm probably a bit out of touch thinking it was a simple replacement of a switch-or even just clean the contacts !!

Has anyone encountered similar-or found an alternative solution-or do i simply need to bite the bullet and have the complete consule unit replaced ?

thoughts/advice welcome.

many thanks

Bliss, non self cancelling indicators.

Now if only they were fitted to my MAN lorry, as it is the slightest movement cancels them to the extent that they often need re-applying up to 6 times to make a turn, and fail to engage at all on some curves.

I'd be inclined to leave them be and enjoy being in control of your own car again, you might get to enjoy it.

In the past, all Citroens han non-cancelling indicatos-excellent-means a driver has to THINK.

I remember working at a Skoda dealer years ago (pre VW) and the Skoda Estelle base model was supplied without self cancelling indicators. The indicator switch had the cancelling mechanism, but the rotating part of the column was missing a clip that used to nudge a plastic lever on the switch. The importers 'economy' mod was to fit a jubilee clip in place of the proper clip. We would do the job free at customer request during servicing.

it is both embarrassing and above all dangerous when the indicators keep on going and no-one has a clue as to which way/if at all you are turning .

seems expensive to have to replace the whole console unit thoughwhat hppene to good old fashoined switches -or can it be done ?

If you think the option on non cancelling is a danger then, unless you can find an indy or specialist, then you're stuck with a big bill.

Are you sure you cannot get used to cancelling manually. I ran a 205 from 1997 to 2000 with no self cancel (failed rather than not installed) and quickly learned to knock the stalk back to neutral when straightening out of a turn.

I'd love to get rid of mine. As Gordon says, you end up reapplying them so many times that they generate more labour than they save.

My old 206 had a failing part called a Com2000 unit which would knack up and stop cancelling, or worse still activate itself on speedbumps / roundabouts etc. Common fault.

I bought one and got my indy to fit it for about £25, cost ~£100 in total. Worth pricing up the part separately I'd say.

thanks again for replies .

If only it was so easy as to cancel them manually.

thats part of problem-they won't cancel manually either--

I'm just being a skinflint to see if anyone could recommend a cheaper way of what i rhought would be a simple switch replacement, when it turns out the whole console needs to be changed !
