Peugeot 207S 2010 1360cc petrol 39,000 miles - Best quality discs and pads - tdc

Anyone know who made the OE discs for this model so that I can steer clear of them?So many to choose from on ebay, all say made to OE standard....which in this case is not confidence inspiring!

Anyone had good mileage from a particular brand?

The little 2001 Fiesta I used to borrow managed 100k before I had to replace them

Cheers

Why not try main dealer, they often have deals on service items.OE parts are generally better quality than the junk on flea bay.

I'm about to buy four discs and full sets of pads for my Saab.

In order to achieve the same aims as yourself (ie avoiding the cheap rubbish, including that French stuff - I get discount at Motaquip) I am buying Mintex branded. Mintex are one of the worlds largest braking suppliers.

This seller on ebay sells Mintex, beware of others who are using the Mintex brand name to supply Mintex pads with cheap rubbish discs. I've done the hard work for you here (by doing it for myself first):

Actually, I wouldn't regard 40k for a set of discs as excessive (although it is on the low side). My Saab has managed 55k, I'm ok with that.

40k is ok for a 207 you will not get that out of a set of Mintex.I have a 307 in my drive with 123000km on the clock with the original discs and they are in excellent condition so maybe its your driving style.

I recently had a conversation with a LRJ Engineering Director about my replacement discs. He was in agreement with my choice of Mintex. In fact he actually saved me money by steering me away from buying grooved and dimpled discs. He told me that LRJ have been able to prove in testing that grooves and dimples do nothing for braking performance (they make for good 'wheel bling' if you like that sort of thing). Notice the XKR comes with plain discs!

Basically he was of the opinion to use any well known brand - and use the same brand pads as discs as they'll be matched.

As I get substantial discount at Motaquip (PSAs spares arm) I could save by buying from them, but I have been unable to confirm their pedigree.

Agree with Mintex and thanks for that ebay link Cyd, have put on favourite sellers.

If its of any interest to those here, Pagid (as supplied very cheaply via Eurocarparts and often cheaper still via their online site carpart4less) discs come fullly pre painted in light silver grey paint, the paint quickly wears off the friction areas but *should* help keep the unswept parts free from unsightly rust over the life of the parts.

Pagid pads often OE for some of the big car makers.

40k isn't too bad for discs/pads, all depends on usage and care.

As an aside, has anyone used EBC GreenStuff pads?...supposed to be very good quality and make little in the way of that horrible brake dust, anyone confirm?

Yes, Gord. My previous chariot was an 800 Vitesse Sport, that's the 200hp version. Superb car except for being a "bit short" on braking. I used Greenstuff for 3 sets of pads (front and rear) with their Turbo Gold discs up front. Very good, improved the cars braking quite considerably.

I did try a set of Red, but these required warming up, which I wasn't happy with, particularly on the motorway, so went back to Green. The greens had tremendous bite straight from cold, but I could provoke them to fade over about 5 miles of country lanes if I tried really hard.

The Saab doesn't have this problem with 302mm front and 292mm rear discs, all four vented!! So I don't feel the need for Greens now.

Thanks Cyd, did the Green uns produce less brake dust or is that a myth?

Good old Rover 800 eh?, one of my best ever cars was an ex police driving school 827si manual (rare that), superb car in every respect and seriously underrated, never gave me a moments bother over several years.

Its weak spot was as you mention the brakes, it always stopped but when from the very high speeds it was capable of (which we won't go into, i was younger then) it would overheat the undersized front discs so much they would eventually warp, i fitted several sets and the complete service history from plods workshops showed it to have had at least two sets a year throughout its life before me, must be them heavy boots plod issue..;)

My old MB does get a move on and being auto it has little in the way of engine braking, no fade or other probs as the brakes are more than adequate, but i wouldn't mind finding a pad that produced less dust for the fronts.

Yep, loads less dust.

I had my 800 for 11 1/2 years, took it to 167k. Had a 827 auto before that for about 3 years. The Vitesse Sport was the car Rover had been crying out for - the Vitesse name had been spoilt by the soft 2.7 version. Shame it was so late.

Yes, warped discs!
