Remember a pre facelift W211 will have the SBC brake pump counting down, unless any car you consider has a full and perfect MB dealer history then MB will offer no goodwill and goodwill ends at 10 years i believe anyway, the bill for SBC pump is £1500.

After facelift (06) SBC was dropped.

C class doesn't have this ticking time bomb.

Make sure any car you consider has been serviced properly, and check very carefully for rust, otherwise these are very good cars.

My MB indy services E220d Taxis from new for a very well respected local private hire chauffer service, 400k+miles virtually trouble free is quite normal, but his servicing is more thorough than a typical main dealer.

A good MB or other German Marque specialist indy in your area would be an important consideration as to which make to go for.

I've had three Mercs. 2 c220 diesels and the present clk 3.2 W reg.
Had one problem with small rust patches on one of the 220s but Mercedes fixed it under warranty even though the car was a few years old. Other than that the cars have been pretty good and using a good indie really keeps the cost down on the servicing. The Clk does well on fuel with 30mpg on runs. Check the pads and discs before you buy too.
