Mercedes Benz C320CDi - Failed Turbo Actuator - LLI0 0DS

Turbo actuator has failed putting car in limp home mode. MB insist actuator not available separately and want to sell/replace the whole turbo unit. Car is w203 (2006) with 112k miles and has been excellent prior to this failure. Any advice on where to source actuator or whether my best/only option is to replace whole turbo as per MB much appreciated.

Thanks

Had the actuator fail on my Skoda, but, when I thought the turbo had failed completely did some digging and found thishttp://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/engine/91157-merc-turbo-info-garrett-vnt-cdi4-onwards.html which may be of some use to you (Wasn't to me as my actuator was a diaphragm and replaceable at comparitively low cost) the info may be of some use to you if you're mechanically minded!!

The come as one paired unit you could look on Ebay for one or try a MB independant specialist I am sure they will be cheaper than a main MB agent

The actuator on this turbo may be (and most likely is) an electronic controlled type, in which case you can't just fit a new actuator and 'go' - the actuator has to be calibrated with the turbo, to ensure the vanes open the correct amounts. Best to check on one of the Mercedes forums, but also a place worth calling is Turbo Dynamics in Poole (01202 4874897).

I know this is an old thread but for reference, I've had my turbo actuator go on my 2006 CLS three times. It is electronic and whilst it can be repaired, it can't - as pointed out earlier - simply be replaced with another unit.

My independent mechanic now believes that something else is causing the actuator to fail. If anyone else has had this kind of perpetual failure, I would greatly appreciate your input/views as to what might be causing it.

Many thanks, Alex

Presumably the turbo has been checked to confirm the vanes move freely and are not hampered by carbon build-up?
