Saab 9-5 2.0t saloon - Clutch issue? - stalky40

Hi all.

I have a Saab 9-5 2.0t saloon, 2003 model. Every now and then reverse gear can sometimes clunk rather heavily when engaged. Having to engage reverse to take the key out can sometimes become embarrasing, especially when in car parks. Can sound like I dont know how to use the clutch properly. Any ideas????

Possibly the clutch is dragging slightly. If you turn off and wait a few seconds, reverse should not clunk; if it does, it's the gear selection which causes the clunk, not the clutch.

A simple but effective trick. Since your car has no synchromesh on reverse, depress the clutch pedal and engage first gear. Then without releasing the clutch disengage first gear and select reverse. This should prevent it from crunching even if the clutch is dragging slightly.
