Lexus GS450h - Shock absorbers - Humperdink

Dear all,

I need to replace 3 shock absorbers on my Lexus GS450h and the dealership wants the best part of 2 grand to do it!

I cannot seem to source the parts myself, can anyone help me find some shocks for this?

Thanks

Japarts list them £57 each front and rear.

Unless it's done less than 30k, change all four.

If they can really be had for £57 each (let's be generous and say £400 a set), then that means the dealer is asking about £400 per shock for labour. This must be getting on for a full days work for one mechanic. Really?? Are the shocks on this car really so difficult to change??

I wonder how complicated the brakes etc might be if any dismantling is required of them for access.

Does regenerative braking system need any special techniques or computer control for instance, i haven't a clue.

Those Jap Parts prices seem very cheap for such a refined car, doesn't the 450h have variable damping rates?

Looking at the price, the car has an Air Suspension.

I know for the fact, only two rear shocks will cost about £1000 +vat just in parts.

So, 2 grand fro three including labour it is not bad at all.

Hope it helps.

P.s. This car is too young and not very common , that is why you couldn't get a non genuine air shock.

If its air suspension thats quite a bargain.

MB front air shocks for SL's/CL's run well over a grand each parts alone, and design excellence means the bottom ball joint is integral with the shock, so don't turn the steering wheel nor drive on anything other than a billard table top..;)....we nearly bought an air sprung CL 500 several years ago, phew close shave.

Would always replace in pairs as poor shocks increase the stopping distance and you might end up with a dangerous car
