Ford Fiesta 1999 1.3 - Over revving

Ford Fiesta 1999 1.3 - Over revving - Paul1977

The car is over revving without me touching the accelerator but its not constant .....it will go in and out. Does anyone know what the problem could be before i take it to the garage?

Either a dirty idle control valve or an air leak somewhere. Not unlikely on a car of that age.

Had this problem years ago and it was caused by the clutch pedal switch being moved.

The mechanic clipped it back into place, problem solved.
