They are going to replace a faulty part - possibly the mechantronics unit - and update software. It will not cost them 1500 euros to do that.

The article states up to USD 600 million - that's 462 million Euros at today's exchange rate - near enough to the half a billion Euros I posted.

Perhaps these transmissions are built in China.

Back in 2010 when Hyundai introduced their 6-speed automatic they had to replace most of the US-built transmissions for that model year while the Korea-built transmissions were fine.
