The sporty offerings from the VAG group are fitted with a device to increase cabin noise, perhaps emulating a bigger more powerful engine. The MK6 Golf GTI 2009 started with an accoustic coupling from the inlet manifold to the cabin and graduated to an electronic digital sound generator (2011) and pressure transducer, the Soundaktor, which vibrates the car body.
I find the noise drones in mid range and really needs to go away.
I had hoped to find a fuse for this system but it's bundled off lots of low power circuits so this idea isn't viable. Some youtube presentations suggest VCDS can turn the volume to zero but that would cost me money.
I found the transducer, the soundaktor, hanging down between the wipers and the feeder cable became accessible when I removed a section of the firewall (2 bolts). I unplugged the cable and tied it down to the thicker cable nearby.
With the soundaktor disconnected the car sounds quieter and more luxurious. A definite improvement.
