Ford C-MAX - Air Con - chesterfieldhouse

The vehicle is a 2014 1.6 petrol that l purchased in June 2024.

The air con wasn't working when l bought it. In the spring of this year l used the Halfords free air con check, which in reality is simply putting a little gas in to see if it holds pressure, which it did, then asking if you want it regassed.

l had it regassed however, the air con still doesn't work.

Fan works fine, l've checked the fuse & swopped out the micro relay switch, still nothing.

Before taking to a specialist, is there anything else a lay person could do?

Thanks in advance.

Not much more you can do yourself without some type of diagnostic tool. Actual live data needs to be accessed to see what is going on.

You could check if the clutch on the compressor pulley is working. If there is gas in the system the clutch should engage when A/C is switched on.

Would recommend Motorclimate at Warwick who diagnose remaufacture. Air con units or complete tge whole work themselves .

Thanks for the advice/info all.

No, the clutch doesn't engage when the A/C is switched on.

There’s many components in the system that can cause the clutch not to engage. It may be the magnetic coil on the clutch itself.

Looks like l'll need to take it to a specialist, though l think l'll wait until next spring.

Thanks for your advice.

I wouldn’t wait until next spring if I were you, the AC specialists will be getting busy again then! AC is also helpful for demising in winter, too.
