Toyota Yaris - Small SUV advice - sunseeker87

I am after suggestions for a small SUV to replace my 2011 Toyota Yaris.

I have recently spent time driving long distance in a SUV and honestly now I have come back to my old Yaris I do not think that I can go back to being so low down! Seriously though I have been thinking about getting a bigger car for a while,more cabin space a bigger boot and a few more mod cons like having electric back windows!

I do not want a huge car and a petrol is fine for the miles I do

I have a toddler who is on a high percentile and is growing like mad and we also have a large dog,I would be aiming to spend no more than around 10k.

My old Yaris is so reliable and I would like a reliable car again

there as re so many options and I feel extremely overwhelmed! Any pointers?

I’d go for a Yaris Cross

Incidently my dil Yaris is 26 years old now . It amazes me how anyone can make anything so reliable . But it comes from an era when Toyota cars were built in Japan.

Nowadays we have badge engineering where Toyota vans are exactly the same as Vauxhalls , Citroens and Peugeots .

The same quality can still be seen in electronic sound systems of the eighties which are still going strong .

All down to the Japanese ethos which can be seen in the new film “ Perfect Days “ which chronicles the day s of a Tokyo toilet cleaner who takes such a pride in his humble job! It’s on Amazon Prime .

Yeah, the OP's budget is roughly £5k short of getting into a Yaris Cross (excluding high miles or ins write-offs)!. Also, Yaris Cross is auto only, which may not be an issue for the OP but in the absence of info to the contrary, I'd assume manual is required.

But i'd agree with others in that this question has the Suzuki Vitara and SX4 S Cross written all over it. Budget is enough to get into a 2021 car, maybe 2022.

The Vitara has more of the more stereotypical SUV look being chunkier, squarer and slightly taller (with correspondingly taller seat height, roughly 20mm). The SX4 S Cross has more a taller estate look about it but may be more suitable for you (and your big dog) through its bigger boot (430 vs 375 litres).

The only way to improve your chances of getting a 'reliable' used car is to buy direct from the owner - i.e. privately. Dealers are unlikely to know much about cars they sell, and any paperwork previous owners may have handed over will quite likely have been binned. Also there is always the possibility that a car will be for sale because it has begun to be unreliable.

Maybe the safest information will be a car's MoT history, which you should always check online; other than that it is published Reliability stats, which have varying levels of accuracy.
