18L Hydraulic - Opening an Oil Pail Without Damage - edlithgow

Basic stupid/simple question. Any suggestions? Maybe there's a pro trick"?

I want to re-use the pail, retaining as good a lid seal as possible, so I dont want to chew it up too much with levers, though I already have a bit with a screwdriver.

The lower strip that rums all around the lid rim ua brken at what looks like its designed break-point, but still in place.

Edit: I ended up having to remove it, but if there is a technique where that strip can be retained I'd like to know it, since it would give a better seal

I'm told oil isn't supplied in this packaging in the UK, very mildly annoying if true since the containers are quite useful.

This kind of thing (leftmost container illustrated)
