Seat ateca - SEAT Ateca - Glow plug open fault - Michael Maddison

OK so I have just spent £350 getting my glow plugs changed on my ateca, seemed to be what everyone was quoting, but my engine management light is still on so now I'm thinking it's the relay, (I'd take it in for diagnostics but paying someone £100 to plug a computer in seems a bit of daylight robbery). Any idea where I might locate the damned thing? I'm a bit brassed off now.

How do you know the relay is faulty? Any tests done?

Just a spot of seductive reasoning, replaced the plugs fault is still there, so I'm guessing it's either relay or leads, I dunno how much is really involved in the glow plug system

Presumably whoever did the job , tested the system operation? We use the phrase “test don’t guess “

If you paid someone to install them surely you are entitled to ask them why you now have fault code?

If you installed them yourself you saved the labour cost of installation so can offset that against diagnostic test.

Well I did call the garage after I got home, and they just said I'd need to bring it back for a diagnostic I plugged my cheap little reader in a while back and it told me that the glow plug circuit was open on cylinders 1&2, so given that there is almost 130k miles on the car it seemed reasonable that the plugs had started to give up.

So now I'm £350 down and still have a fault light on. The relay looks to be a doddle of a job to do. I'm getting rid of the car soon but want the fault light off if I can before I try to give it back

Why don’t you take up the offer from the garage before spending any more money?
