Toyota Corolla - R-1234yf gas oil and leak sealer in a can. - myjess

If my A/C is not working too well, is it ok to use the 3 in 1 can that has the

sealer and the oil and the gas all in the one can?

Or should I only use the gas only can?

Thank you.

If it's not working too well and you suspect it's got a leak, then you can spend a lot of money continually topping it up (do you know the correct amount?), or you can get it done professionally.

I dont think its leaking so I would probably just go with a regas.

No-one around me really except Toyota themselves and they want £170 for the re-gas.

Bonnet label says 470+something.

Cans are 235 each. Amazon has 2cans + hose + gauge + adapter gor £70 spprox.

Thanks.

Protyre (168 branches ) via Groupon will regas for c£80 at the moment. I wouldn't mess around with cans at that price. Their equipment will detect if there's a leak and I assume they will inject a dye so that any slow leak will be easier to find.

If it’s not leaking , why does it need recharging? Those diy cans are a whole load of trouble, especially if they have sealant in them . Get it done professionally or don’t bother .

If it's not leaking why does it need regassing?

Many areas have mobile aircon technicians who can do the job properly for about £60 www.coolcaraircon.co.uk/

It is illegal to release AC gas into the atmoshere, which is what you'll be doing without doing a leak test first.

Don’t think you’ll get a regas on a late car using the new gas for £60

My local Honda dealer charges £89 for r1234yf www.startingroup.co.uk/honda/offers/honda-air-cond.../

The Doc is right .

There are normally two charges . £60 for cars with the old refrigerant and £120 for newer cars.

Like most things the old system is said to work best but not so good for the environment

The local independent charges were £50 old and £100 new. The new stuff is reputed to leak more than the old and top - up every 2 years is recommended.

Like so many 'new and better' things, always a downside which is not mentioned in the release propaganda.

I guess the published data of the ozone hole shrinking after the banning of the worst CFCs is also 'propaganda'.

I ask as the refrigerant is the same but different lubricant in the electric compressor air conditioning systems fitted to Toyota hybrids.

Part of the problem with AC, according to my local dealership, is lack of or intermittent use. They recommend AC is on permanently. Even in winter as it works with heat and cold too.
I would get it checked and re-gassed properly then use it as suggested. Continued use seems to prevent problems with leak as seals are properly lubricated I was told.
Good luck

Experience suggest this is correct. I have had cars with aircon since at least 1989 and never had to have one regassed. Current fleet are from 2014, 2016 & 2017 and all work well. AC is always on.

R134a has a about 1,550 times the global warming potential (GWP) of CO2. R1234yf is has a GWP of about 4, so is considered harmless as there's only c. 500g in a car. R12 (Freon) which was effectively banned, had a GWP of 10,000 and as a bonus destroys ozone. That's progress

Yup - use it or loose it.

If it is a Corolla hybrid then make sure the drive power mode isn't in ECO as this also reduces the air conditioning system performance.
