Fire at Bicester Heritage - Steveieb

Sad news today about the fire at the Heritage Centre and the tragic loss of two fire fighters .

Apparently the fire started after an explosion.

There are several classic car restoration companies based here and I remember seeing Mike Brewer s workshop on site ( Wheeler Dealers ) too where Elvis refurbished the cars that Mike had bought .

Also there are new car showrooms for Polestar and other companies

I did a quick text around this morning, knowing people that work at Polestar.
It’s a fascinating place to visit, though you do have to have a good reason to be on site.
Lots of car restoration and classic race preparation companies, as well as still being an active aerodrome.
Probably a year since I’ve been, but Polestar were the only manufacturer there.

They ran, maybe still run, the Bicester Scramble every few months where the auto businesses would all open up on a Sunday for enthusiasts to look around.

My thoughts are with the two firefighter who died, their injured colleagues and the member of the public who also died.

Rightly overshadowed by the tragic loss of life, this rare, possibly unique, vehicle has been lost.

Does anyone know what happened to cause the deaths?

I know the site fairly well, I've been to several events there.

The investigation continues into the cause of the fire/ explosions.

But along with Polestar the other dealer on site is surprising Morgan Car Company. Maybe for customers who require easier access than travelling to their manufacturing site at Malvern ?

Two other manufacturers based there are :-

Yasa a MB company and Canoo a US company both of which are involved with the manufacture of EV delivery vehicles

Canoo declared bankruptcy at the start of the year, so maybe wouldn't have been much of theirs still kicking about on site.

Electrogenic are based at the Heritage site too. They convert classic cars to EVs .

Being careful not to get involved in any speculation, it seems to have been Building 79 that was involved.
News reports state that it was used for the storage of vintage vehicles.
I’m happy to now await official sources to investigate the cause of the tragedy.

Good advice MCB

The tragedy is the loss of life to the Fire Service team and member of the public who were involved .
