Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet - E class 2016 - barney100
I need to half open the roof to lubricate etc but it won’t stay. Local dealers say a special tool is needed but won’t sell me one…too dangerous they tell me. Any ideas?

Could you disconnect the battery when it is half way open?

The official MB tool costs around £200 . It’s basically an adjustable support bar with attachments at each end to lock it onto the roof and top windscreen panel . Most people seem to fabricate some kind of broom handle with brackets. Think the part # is 230 589 046 300 .

My 2010 E-class Cabrio roof will just stop mid-opening when you release the button.

Out of interest, what are you using to lubricate the mechanism?

Ought to give mine some TLC.

White lithium grease for the hinges and silicone for the seals. Keeping the roof clean with a Dr Beckmanns carpet cleaner form the supermarket after cleaning and sealing.

My previous one was stolen and indeed the roof stayed open for maintenance but the replacement...a 2016...dosen't. I've contacted the supplying dealers and they will not help. They say it is too dangerous and only a mechanic can do it safely with their special tool. I've managed to get to some hinges and rubbers and hope to figure a way to get to them all.
