Had my renewal through this morning on the Merc, which is a 2.0 Turbo C200 Estate. £338 with younger SWMBO on the policy too. Not bad actually, and even shopping around made only a token gesture of a difference so I’ll just stick with Halifax insurance because of their sensible renewal policy.

Car is performing without fault and continues to be a very comfortable companion on my morning commutes.

That’s an amazing deal SLO. My similar car E 320 D is double what you pay because of my age . So there’s one down side about being a baby boomer !

Regarding the MB Estate .

I decided to replace the rear door struts only to find they are hidden under the roof lining.

My indie gave up when he realised how difficult it was . Suggested I get a broom handle

Renewed the Landcruiser @ £286 and Forester 2.5XT @ £267 last week, both full NCD protected policies.

Scooby came in £20 up from last year (wouldn't have worried about that), Toyota had gone up £100odd, checked what's possible on MSE comparison site then a phone call to my insurer brought premiums back down similar to last year.

I'm with Direct LIne still, find the call centre who speak clearly pleasant to deal with, remember DL don't feature on the comparison sites.

Fast approaching 70, whether we'll still get decent premiums in 5 years time remains to be seen.

When that happens, you may want to try LV=. My dad's former 'staff' (and for retirees) policy with Axa suddenly jumped a decent amount at 75t, so he shopped around and got a much better one (and with seemingly better people on the other end of the phone) from LV=

I'd suggest that (if not doing so already and you actually have kids and who have a clean claims history) you put one of your kids on the policy as a named driver (just for emergencies) when your 75. It may benefit you even now. No harm in checking at the each year's renewal.

Got a decent premium quote from LV a few years ago, it proved impossible to pay and getting hold of a human proved so frustrating i went elsewhere, thinking if this is what taking in dosh is like imagine in the event of a claim, but will keep then in mind, thanks.

On the kids front, my son is returning to Blighty to vist later in the year from Aus, was going to lend him the Landcruiser for the stay but he apparently no longer has a valid UK licence so will arrange hire at dicsounted rates thanks to working for an international company that uses hires regularly, my daughter whom i love dearly is a petrol head and likely to have the insurer running for the safe room at the mere mention of her name :-)

Don't know what age your one is (or the one in the video), but found this YT clip of a guy changing the struts on his E Class estate.

Seems like the design didn't take into consideration the possibility of needing to replace them?.

Looks tricky but doable though!

Cancelled my renewal with DL for my Fabia as I sold it 48 hours before the policy's expiry. Reason for sale was that we're going to see if we can get by with one car. I'm now 100% wfh so that ought to be doable.

Went out to look for a replacement with a Skoda Superb estate as front runner. Looked at one and, I suspect because the end of the month was breathing down their necks got a good deal on it.

Comparison sites came up with quotes north of £500 but LV= who, like DL don't appear on comparison sites, came in at much the same as the Fabia's renewal.

Actual cash amount was only about £150 more than I paid age 22 for my first car, a Mini 1000, in 1982.

I use a good local Merc specialist who’s probably seen everything that can go wrong with these things. I’ll wager he’ll have a way round this.
