Hi all, first time post here.

06 plate Peugeot Expert 2.0 hdi 119k. Been experiencing a problem the last few months. At a certain rev point the engine makes a strange noise and starts rattling, anything over that reve point it stops and sounds good.

I've had the aux belt and bottom pulley replaced, cam belt kit including water pump done. Ran egr valve cleaner and valve cleaner through it. Spent a small fortune on it so far and still have the same issue.

Would this car have a DMF (dual-mass flywheel) ? Those rattle for some time before disintegrating ... Or is that what you had replaced ?

Yes it's got a DMF, still on the original clutch. Sounds like it's coming from the belt side of the engine

Run it with the poly vee belt off to see if the noise is still there.

Is that the big pulley at the bottom? It was replaced with the belt.

Remove the belt from all the pulleys so nothing is turning apart from the crank pulley.

Yes did that and the noise was still there so presumed it was the crank pulley so replaced that and v belt and still the same

It sounds like the crank pulley to me. Odd if it's been replaced.

Maybe take the timing cover off and see if there are any marks on the inside.

The noise seems to be produced at half engine speed. So that could indicate a fault with the camshaft drive system .
