Toyota - What is "cost price" - KirstyH

My local Toyota dealer has an event of 100 new cars being sold at £100 above "cost price" for 100 hours.

I would like to know what exactly is "Cost price" - how do you define "Cost Price"?

I know they can show me an "invoice" illustrating this, but anyone can do that?

How do I know I am not being fobbed off?

The advertised "Cost Price" will, I assume be list minus say 5/6/7%

The cost to the dealer will be much, much less as each car will contribute to a target

that has been set for the company - £'00s for the very cheapest cars, £'000s possibly on more expensive / run out models !

Look on a few websites for deals - print off these. Listen to the dealer telling you he is making a small margin - then produce the prices for your choice from Carfile, autoebid, new-car-discount etc etc - challenge them to meet/beat your research.

Its marketing - don't worry about what "cost price" actually means as it means nothing.

Its spring, its new reg time, dealers need to shift stock.

Compare prices on the Toyota website, drivethedeal etc and negotiate in the usual way.

Agree with the above.

Recently I have been bombarded (well, 3 or 4) mailshots and emails from local dealers asking me to register for their "Special VIP Events". Often it's during the evening when the showroom is 'closed'.

Typically they have been given a "manfacturer bonus", in addition to any discounts negotiated locally.

By all means go along with your eyes open, but as above, take some sharp internet deals with you from drivethedeal, carfile etc.

Otherwise, as we used to say, it's all Marketing b******s!

Bovine excrement...though the only risk to the public is that someone might actually believe it.

They'll come out with any old tripe to sell some metal on...of which they have far too much currently.
