vauxhall - Car registration - Johnny Barnes

Hi all

Apologies if posted in wrong section ?

Could any out give a possible reason why a car registered in 2010 ,was not registerd with DVLA until 2013 ?

No one seems to know the answer ??

Thanks in Advance

Do you mean built in 2010 and first registered in 2013 - various government departments bulk-buy certain cars and keep them in store for release as necessary for official purposes.

Otherwise is may be a personal registration transfer - or an Opel imported from Ireland and illegally rebadged as a Vauxhall.

Mass manufacturers like Vauxhall often build more cars than they can sell and they end up stockpiled on old airfields or other storage parks. It’s not as common these days but in the 80’s and 90’s it was a bit of a scandal with cars (particularly Austin/Rover) often rusting before they even reached their first owner.

It could also have been sitting in a dealers yard/showroom/warehouse for ages particularly if it’s an unpopular model, spec or colour.

I recently came across a car that had very dubious registration. It was suggested it was used by the police, or some other dubious government organisation!

3 years seems excessive

Not uncommon to see cars registered a year after they are built

Ain't that the truth, Slo...I used to work for a Rover dealer and generally checked in "new" cars..was often amazed at the actual build date of some of them...you won't be surprised that it was usually the 800 models.!

"Here's your new car, Sir...only 2 years old and straight from an airfield near you"..!

Cars sometimes knock around Jersey for a while, as hire cars.

Things which come to mind:

- May have been registered in Channel Islands, Isle of Man or similar

- May be from Republic of Ireland

- May have been on some sort of special plate, e.g. military

- Might have been sitting around for some bizarre reason

It is possible it may have been in Northern Ireland but that should still show up as registered on the correct date and it is all integrated at Swansea now anyway.

Probably one of these - remember what the financial world was like around 2010:
