Did any manufacturers supply Euro 6 before Sep'15? - pint6x

I'm looking for a used estate car - probably a diesel, though I want it to be euro 6 compliant.

I understand anything registered new from Sept 1st 2015 MUST be euro 6 compliant, so anything 65 reg onwards.

Did any car manufacturers sell euro 6 cars before that date?

Its possible but unlikley and even if they did it would be listed as EURO 5, A car must be listed as complying with the standard that is enforced at the time. As far as I understand makers were allowed to sell cars already produced for a good while after that date.

All Euro 5 spec vehicles had to be registered before September 1st 2015.

They could be sold after that date as used or pre-reg vehicles, but they couldn't be sold as new.

What's the reason for wanting Euro 6 compliancy on a used car?
Did any manufacturers supply Euro 6 before Sep'15? - pint6x

If I'm buying a diesel, I would like to have the latest technology and least polluting engine I can. I do 20k+ miles a year, so diesel makes sense.

The most up to date emissions standards do nothing for economy or engine longevity. It's not something to focus on when buying a used car.

I agree that you do enough mileage to warrant a diesel though but Focus instead on condition, service history and mileage over whether it's Euro 5 or Euro 6.

What's your budget and requirements? Do you have a shortlist of cars you fancy?

I disagree completely with your advice - I would like to buy a diesel car which leaves the smallest possible environmental footprint and as such I will buy a Euro-6 car.

I'm fully conversant with what to look for when buying a used car.

Again - I'm just trying to find out whether any manufacturers registered Euro-6 compliant cars prior to September 2015.

So your the one

I was wondering who this motorist is who is concered about his carbon footprint They talk about him alot they created a movement from his wishes They then developed a massive global industry from his wishes but I have never come across him untill today !

So you the one !

I nealy fell for a carbon credit investment nearly but that was close . The manafactures are all fidling the figures .We were told deisils were cleaner than petrol and now they are actully killing people .

This movement / industry is a total load of waffle to line other peoples pockets

I know what I would do if I were you I would get a massive 4.6 Range Rover then you will actully know what goes to the air .

Dont buy a car that you think is clean just because someone said its the right thing to do

The new Honda 1.6 D-tec seems to have very few, if any problems, in fact I haven't heard of any.

Good call. An excellent engine, we've one in our CRV and it's smooth, very flexible and amazing on fuel. Juddering clutches are the only thing to watch out for. They tend to do it only from cold and some are worse than others. It's the one weak point on Honda's, particularly the diesels for some reason. They don't all do it but if you have one that does the dealers will tell you it's a characteristic of the car. I fought for a new clutch on our CRV because it was unacceptably bad but the replacement started to judder within a month of being fitted, though it's much better than before. When warmed up it's not noticeable and they're otherwise excellent cars which I've no doubt will hit 200k easy enough if maintained properly. One of the best Diesel engines I've ever owned or driven and that accounts for a fair number over the years.

Agree about the Honda 1.6 diesel. I've had my 63-plate Civic from new and it currently has just over 75k miles. Never put a foot wrong, very good on fuel, best being 78 mpg and worst 59 mpg (brim to brim calculations). It's also good on tyres, changed the fronts at 46k miles, the rears lasted over 70k miles. Presumably these models have a dpf, but I've never seen any evidence of a regen.

Thats interesting. The emissions hardware changed late 2012 and looks the same as the Euro 6 cars with the turbo and DPF bolted straight onto the cylinder head, no manifold at all. My 2.0 L TDi was built Aug 14 and registered in Sept 14 but is still a Euro 5 car.

There has been a lot of real world testing going on over the last year and the results suggest my car can produce up to three times the permitted NOx, not great but is still lower than some Euro 6 cars from other brands like Mazda and Hyundai . The revised Euro 6 comes into force later this year that includes real world testing, for diesel and petrol, there is a lot of rushed development work going on behind the seen I suspect.

I think there were both 1.6 and 2.0 Blue Motion variants available from mid-2013.

I have lost all faith in any cars from the VAG group - the diesels which have been 'fixed' after the emissions scandel not working properly, the petrol engines with cam chains which detach themselves, DSG transmission failures - I just don't trust any car they have made in the last decade.

I have been impressed with Peugeot partner euro 6 HDi blue (Ad Blue) 16 plate.
18k miles so far, still not had to refill ad blue tank and van was serviced at 1 year old and 12k miles.

Have a friend with a Seat Alhambra with an Ad blue tank and he has had a nightmare with a sensor fault that kept telling him the ad blue tank was near empty when it was near full and the ad blue pump failing and the car going into limp mode.
He had a struggle to get Seat to pick up the cost of the failure but they eventually agreed.

There seems to have been a problem with a batch of AdBlue tanks with a lot of failures mainly in the US, the whole tank needs to be replaced at a cost of £600-£700. Like all these things if you are unlucky enough to be one of the first to suffer you have a harder time than those who get it later when its a known fault. VAG seem to be replacing them outwith warranty with 90% contribution by them

As far as I have been able to find out AdBlue is used mainly at higher loads and speeds and much less at low to medium loads, so fast motorway driving or hard acceloration is when most is used. The bulk of my driving is on rural roads at steady 50 to 60mph so I use very little, well oner 1000m/ L. I top up the tank myself well before any warning light comes on, every 6 to 9 months so I know Im never going to have the light come on unexpectedly.

Even early new model lorries have suffered with adblue faults, and they get tested for far more miles and under extreme conditions than most cars will.

Where the euro6 lorries differ from cars is that the driver has access to on screen info about the state of DPF and can manually trigger a regen when a suitable journey is underway, why that system couldn't have been fitted to cars with info and regen rights available for thge many, such as here, more switched on motorists i do not know... the first maker to offer that solution could wipe the floor in sales and cars so fitted would be in high demand used.
