The parts are in demand all over the world and as they rarely go wrong, there is not a big economy of scales to drive down prices
Thats nonsense, these parts are used in the initial build, spares represent at most 5 percent excess stock and are no more expensive for the manufacturer to acquire than the ones supplied to the line. This is simple price gouging, a speciality in the UK, those parts will be considerably cheaper elsewhere.
Be thankful that you dont have an equivalent land rover, their UK distributor / dealer network are top drawer price gougers for everything, even the routine bits.
As an (ex)-interested party, having been a parts manager in a jagua/rangerover dealership, the parts are expensive for a reason or two.. or more.
That can be checked by getting a price for genuine parts and then for good quality pattern parts.
Manufacturing cost is virtually the same for most non premium brake pads as an example, but when you get to the premium end the profit margins rise, as the dealer needs more profit per sale as there are less sales. My old boss used to say that he preferred to sell 10 minis to 1 jaguar or range rover as the 10 minis brought in 10 times the work.
But in he uknow all dealers only stock "service items" , virtually ecerything is available next day if urgent with a low profit margin or slower for a higher margin.
I have known main dealers to use "pattern parts" from the local motor factor because of the increased margin for non warranty work...
The price for the toyota mazon complete abs unit is not actually excessive in my opinion, but if the repair can be done effectively elsewhere, just do it. Do Toyota/LR/jaguar/mercedes etc care, not a jot!
