Mazda 2 or Suzuki Swift? - Metropolis.

Trying to work out which of these is the better option. It's the Thai market but these models are pretty standard worldwide from what I can gather. Will be buying new to replace a Toyota Vios. Generally will be driven in and around Bangkok on the commute with the occasional long drive across Thailand. Which of these two would you choose and why? Is one better built than the other? Will probably keep it a few years. It will have to be an auto. Thanks in advance!

They're both great little cars with excellent reputations for reliability and driver enjoyment so buy the one you enjoy the most on the test drive. Though I'd personally prefer a manual box with either.

I have more experience with Suzuki so I trust them more, the only major reservation i have is the CVT gearbox, anyone got experience of their application in the Suzuki? Heard too much about catastrophic failures of CVTs in general. Mazda has a traditional 6 speed auto.

My wife's got a Mazda 2 with the 1.3 in TS2 trim.

it's a good little car for driving in and around the city but I find it lacking (obviously) on the motorway. It's an 09 plate and she's had it for 4 years. It's only done around 25k in those 4 years but nothing has been needed with it besides servicing. Around the city it returns around 36-40mpg which is decent. Like my 2 Mazda petrols before, it uses no oil in between it's annual service

I've sat in a swift and it seems similar Inside in terms of space and refinement but haven't driven one so can't comment.

I'd drive both and see which you prefer, and if similar then I'd buy the cheaper option available.
