How well do you think the damage has been repaired?

Do you know who repaired it?

Don't forget that if you do buy this car it will always be a Cat D. If you come to sell it that fact will have to be declared and, as a result, it will always be worth considerably less than a car which isn't Cat D.

Same if there's ever a total loss insurance claim on the car. The insurance company will always know it's a Cat D and, as a result, the payout will be considerably less.

Looking at the damage I would say that's quite serious damage for a Cat D. Some of them hardly have a scratch on them and many are just stolen and then recovered, but I'm no expert, anyway. Perhaps it got put into Cat D because it's a fairly new car. I would have thought Cat C but, as I say, I'm no expert.

Personally, whenever I've been enquiring about a car and been told it's a Cat D or Cat C I just say "Thank you very much!" and put the phone down. But that's just my opinion.

Last week HJ had a letter re a Cat D car, a Mini, which 2 years after purchase blew an engine.

Car had done 23K when declared Cat D. When engine blew it was discovered the 2012 car had an "old style" 2009/10 engine that had done some 80K +.

Cat D - Buyer beware!

If you have to ask us, you should not be considering buying it.

I've looked at a few Cat D cars in the past, and the worry of buying a pig has always put me off.

Put it this way, is the saving worth the niggling worry you'll have about the car in the back of your mind worth it? In my case it wasn't!

For me it depends if the car is body on frame or monocoque. If it has a frame it should be fine. Monocoque like the one you are looking at i wouldnt go near unfortunately.

I just don't think the saving is worth the hassle, and the reduced worth of the car if you were to sell it.

There are lots of Aygos (and of course 108s and C1s) around, and there should be plenty of undamanged ones to suit mist budgets.

I've bought some real pigs over the years, having been dazzled by the superficial attractions of a particular model to the detriment of my ability to properly assess the mechanical condition of the individual vehicle itself.

However, even in the darkest hours of my most foolish car-buying times I wouldn't have knowingly bought an accident-damaged car. Walk away.

I wouldn't touch it unless it was stupidly cheap (£3k or less) and looked well repaired. You can buy a 2015 Aygo of the same spec with 11k miles from Motorpoint for £6,700.
