Those European Hire Car Excess Waiver policies... - RickyBoy

...the one's that you buy in the UK before departure!

Any good?

Worth the £39.99?
(It's £3.99 per day and I'll be away for 10 so prudent to go for Annual cover)

Am I correct in thinking that they cover you for the whole excess fee that would be charged (say £500.00) or just the difference between that excess and the total bill cost (say the final bill was £850.00 then you'd just get £350.00 back)?

Any advice/confirmation appreciated...

Cheers,

RB

They are a lot cheaper than buying the cover at the kiosk. Last year in Spain our hire car was pranged and I had to pay 300 euro on return to the hire car company. It was a drawn out affair but eventually the UK company I had used to insure excess waiver did pay up in full. Overall, I saved money but it was quite a bit of hassle and in future I'd be tempted to take out the complete cover with the reputable hire car company I use, more expensive but hassle free. But yes, they work and it's cheaper.

I usually book through economycarhire. They are U.K. Based and all excess insurances are generally included.

We have just returned from a week in Spain. Enterprise car hire wanted €136 to reduce the excess to zero for the 7 day hire. I had already bought a policy for around £25 so declined. No need to claim so I have no experience of the process. I'm just happy to have saved around £100.

Oh, the insurance would've paid the whole excess, which in Enterprise's case was €950.

last time I used Holiday autos and their own excess waiver policy.

Did not need to claim, but was already noted by the hire company (enterprise) las time we hired in toulouse, so no problems either way.

If only all hire companies were as honourable as Autoreisen who operate exclusively in the Canaries. Top rated company in Holiday Which and no cancelation charges, no hassle or intrusive checking when you collect or return. No need to take out extra insurance. Brilliant except for the French cars which make up most of their fleet.

Otherwise I too use Economy Car Hire and pay the additional insurance. Great service and no 1 broker in Which.

Incidentally Europcar get the best car rental firm awards but can work out the most expensive.

One company I would definitely avoid is Goldcars !
