We've been in loose talks to supply carwow

They, and their peers, survive like webuyanycar by throwing the k****** sink at advertising telling the public they are the best option, if they buy from the likes of us, clearly they're not!

If you need some help sourcing a car let us know

Not sure why Kit-chen is being censored

I've checked their site out, got some nice quotes with contacts to main dealers.

Don't know their style, but how could they ruin that?

What's your site, "TheBroker"?

I used drive the deal. It was hassle free. Paid a minimal deposit, which went towards the new polo. No dealer could match the price. I would recommend them.

They seem legit.. What was your totalt % ?

Sorry about the censoring. For some reason the forum is attacked every day by idiots trying to sell k************ fittings. I used to have to delete them myself (and putting that word in the swear filter was an early attempt) but fortunately now HJ's office has put in a filter.

I got a quote from Coast2coast for my V60, and then asked the local dealer if they could match it. They undercut it - but probably wouldn't have done if I hadn't got the quote in the first place.

We used drivethedeal for an Aygo 10 years ago. They are still going so must do something right. Everything went smoothly, only downside was the dealer was about 200 miles away.

Car was OK and it is still going strong as I saw it just the other day driving past the house. I did wonder if it still leaked like a sieve into the boot!

I've used Drive the Deal and also www.uknewcars.com to make substantial savings on my last 2 new car purchases (7yr & 3yr ago, so not completely up-to-date!).

Very happy with the service and the substantial savings. No problem having subsequent follow-up care / servicing from local main agents.

I mean, as long as I'm presented with a real dealer through the broker, what could go wrong? Except that the dealer could be an a** :)

We were looking at a new BMW Z4 last year. Went to coast 2 coast, specced out the car, and it came back with about £7k discount on a £33.5k car. I knew from BMW forums that C2C deal with a dealer near London (I'm in North Wales). Went into my local dealer to ask for a price - have bought off them before, so they know I'm not messing about. They started off at £2k off list. I produced the C2C price, and basically told them I knew which dealer would be supplying at that, and I wanted them to get close. Ten minutes later, they were within£200 of the C2C price, so I did the deal with them to save me having to go down to London.

Exactly - the broker just acts as an introduction agency - but check out the dealer and get other buyer's opinions of that dealer.

So...I filled in some details and got some interesting e-mail responses from carwow.

In nearly all instances a finance deal( personal contract) was £2k cheaper than retail cash.

What's the trick here?

On the assumption it's "for real" how does it work for the customer?

Online Car Brokers - Avant

It works for the customers if they prefer to keep their cash in their bank account - or more likely, haven't got enough up front in the first place.

It works for the dealers as they earn money on selling finance contracts.

The "trick" is often that the car maker will add a significant deposit contribution IF you take out their finance.

I did this with a VW Touareg, getting a £5,000 deposit contribution from VW (on top of substantial discount negotiated with the dealer) but had to use a VW PCP - but paid that off in full after a few weeks so paying only a small amount in interest.

I'm well pleased.

Aha -The best laid plans??..the risk you maybe took might have resulted in you badly pranging the VW and getting caught up in a horrendous residual "PCP sort out" ?....I think it better to stick to dosh,

If I'd badly pranged my VW in the first year, my insurance would have replaced like with like - that would no doubt include settling the PCP but early settlement gets the full interest rebate.

If I write it off after the 2nd year, GAP insurance will cover it - no PCP complication as long since paid off.

Can highly reccomend carwow

With the volume manufacturers you can get amazing prices, the dealers have always honoured the prices they quoted with no hidden extras.

I have found a very competitive Citroen dealer and Fiat dealer who I have reccomended to friends, they have since purchased cars from both dealerships.

They are my kind of car dealer, happy for the extra business and to make a minimal profit to help boost their monthly sales figure.

As the car salesman told me, they still get enough footfall who pay retail or buy on finance through the door, to be willing to take minimal profit sales via carwow to help hit their various sales targets.

carwow is well worth signing up for.

Ok so-I am about to "commit" to a retail cash sale of £14k but the salesman says I can save you £2k if you sign up with a "never never" deal. .....surely it's better for his company if I then produce a gladstone bag of instant £fivers in his face rather than muck around with fuzzy wuzzy hp paperwork . M'thinks this is all about negotiation skills is it not?

No - the salesman can only negotiate his own margin/costs - if the car maker will add £2k to your deal you'd still be winning if you pay off early and pay a £100 interest.

A bagful of cash is going to cause some concern to a car dealer - it hits the money laundering legislation. Car manufacturers are going to make money out of the finance deal - maybe more money than they make from the car sale. They are hoping that you won't cancel the deal but you do have the legal right to do so.

Of course, you do need to pass the credit checks to get the finance, and this will go down in your credit history (which may improve it).

All types of financial transactions are subject to Money Laundering legislation, not just cash.

"Cash" can include direct bank transfer as well as notes & coins.

I doubt any car dealer wants to be paid in cash these days - money laundering regulations would be the least of their worries - who wants all the cash to bank! (security worries, bank handling fees etc)

Electronic payment by debit card is a much better way to go.

As for car finance deals, I guess the discount is a form of advance compensation for the high rate of interest being charged - compare with the cheap loans from banks etc, before making any purchase.

Youngest son bought a pre reg car at the weekend.

He traded a 4 yr old Golf GTi for £15K & bought the Mini Cooper S which was £18K with another £2,000 off if he bought it on HP!

So he drove off with his new car & had more money in the Bank Account than he had the day before!

He will allow the 1st payment to be taken by DD then phone up & pay off the balance - there will be some HP interest/ charges for early settlement but not £2,000 - there are strict legal process for charges for early redemption.

So in effect his Pre Reg car costs £16K (+ change) for a genuine 5 miles/ 6 week old Cooper S that lists at £24,000 - 6 hour run to Yorkshire to pick it up BUT thousands less than a Broker or any other Mini dealer - Sytner have lots more OR at least they did last week!

Make sure he get's the V5C in his name now - some dealers retain it for 6 months, illegally.

My VW Solutions PCP was 6% interest rate - only those with poor credit records will pay "high rates of interest" but then they will where ever they borrow.

Looking to buy fairly soon for towing so I have been to all the online brokers mentioned. Some brokers are excellent for Ford but rubbish for other makes, some are good for Skoda but rubbish for others, so you need to still shop around. I found Carwow the worst. They simply give you a list of dealers who offer a quote. The dealers all try to contact you and want to telephone you, presumably they think they can sweet talk a sale. Some chance. I refused them all. The quotes were on the high side too. Much better deals on offer elsewhere, so Carwow is now off my list. DTD and Coast2coast seem to be consistently the keenest and the easiest to deal with. Having said that my local Ford dealer came up with a cracking deal for a PCP at 2.9% APR interest on the deal. Cheaper than buying a nearly new or used car from their stock. Weird. I accompanied my daughter who took her second PCP with this dealer and she came away with a brand new Focus for not a lot of money. The deal price really does get better if you test drive(£500 off) then take a manufacturer conribution, then a dealer contribution, which makes a new car very accessible. As always the need to examine the detail is paramount, but it is not compicated.
