I owned two Ka in the past.No touble with rust on either.A 2002 with Kent engine and a 2006 SportKa(1600 Rocam). The first for four years, the second for seven. Both were excellent, reliable and the only outgoing other than servicing was a front spring on the 1600 just before I sold it.There were rust problems on very early ones(96-98) but later ones were better.
You may have been one of the lucky ones - see HJ's Car-by-Car review and you'll see that older (even those built well after 2000) still suffered from serious corrosion problems (amongst other issues) and aren't worth repairing. For the £750 budget the OP is looking at, you'll not get a newer one which might be suffering less.
I've found that cars normally known for rusting in older age have to be meticulously looked after (often at great expense) to keep them in roadworthy condition, as opposed to some which are considered to be 'worthy but dull' (normally Japanese from the Toyota and Honda stables) but just keep going and going just with normal servicing, the occasional replacement part every few years, and a clean every couple of months.
