Nissan Qashqai - CO2 emissions on the 1.5dCi Qashqai? - Waino

We've been contemplating getting a 1.5dCi Qashqai, and noticed that sometimes the CO2 emissions are given as 99g/km and other times as 103g/km. Has anyone any idea why there should be this difference? Could it relate to wheel size or, possibly gearbox type?

Thanks

Gearbox type will generally make a difference, otherwise some models may have wider tyres, be heavier than others due to extra kit. Extra weight increases fuel useage and CO2 emissions.

Audi used to give the weight of all the extras and details how this affected VED band.

I believe it is due to the different wheel sizes. When I was about to buy one last year I was happy that the CO2 was below 100g/km, however when I chose a N-Tec+ model I found it was 103g/km, when I enquired why the difference I was told it was due to the N-Tec+ having 18" wheels instead of 17" on most other models.

Thanks for those comments. I was thinking that <100gCO2 would affect both RFL and the congestion charge, but I now understand that the congestion charge applies to practically all bar electric. Twenty quid pa is neither here nor there if the car suits in every other respect.

Incidentally, TeeShot, how are you getting on with Qashqai? I was lining up for the 1.5 diesel but I've learned that my nephew is enjoying his 1.2 petrol. Unfortunately, he lives 300 miles away, so a test drive isn't on at the moment. Did you compare the two?

Loving it, it's been flawless so far.

The official figures for the 1.5dci Qashqai are 99g/km for the lower trim levels, however the higher trim levels are 103g/km (down to increased weight of spec and wheel size)

Comparing the dCi with the petrol, unless you are doing major miles the petrol could end up cheaper to buy outright and run than the diesel with the improved economy.

Leasing wise the difference between the 2 can be as little as about £6/month which makes the diesel probably a better bet cost wise.

The 1.5dci is not available as an auto - that is the 1.6dCi.

I hope this helps

"I hope this helps"

Thanks, I don't expect my annual mileage to differ much from the 10k that I'm doing at the moment so, financially, the petrol would be worth considering. I realy ought to test drive them both.

The quoted MPG difference between the 1.2DIGT and 1.5dCi is about 24mpg (50 and 74 respectively) a difference of around 3.4p per mile at todays prices which over 10,000 miles is £340.

The price differential of the Qashqai between diesel and petrol is around £1830, so to break even on the cost differential (at todays prices) you would need to keep the car for over 5 years.

This is of course if you are buying outright for cash.

Taking into account the noxious gasses of Diesel the petrol is looking to be a viable option.

If you prefer the drive of the petrol then it would make sense to go that way, if you prefer the drive of the diesel then the choice is a little more difficult (but only a bit).

Good luck

Mine is a 2015 (64 reg) 1.5dCi Tekna with the 19" wheels. CO2 is recorded as 99g/km on the V5 and Road Tax is £0 .

Owned it since March 2015 (although it sat on the drive for 5 months as I had a company car travelling the UK!). During this time the best MPG I got was 72MPG on a 50 mile trip (A13, M25, Dartford Crossing).

Nice car, but the Air Con Condenser has failed and I've been waiting nearly 2 months for parts. There is still no indication as to when the parts are going to be available. There are loads of QQ owners all over the country with this problem, my local dealer has 8 on back order. Nissan are well aware there is a problem but dragging their heels in getting the matter resolved.

Interesting as the official figures state your model with a CO2 of 103 due to the trim level with larger wheels, also confirmed in the date relevant marketing material from Nissan Looks like the V5 is wrong, but in your favour

The marketing material I have states 99g/km for CO2. Material is dated October 2014. I've got into a habit of collecting and retaining the actual (hard copy) brochures of the cars I buy - makes a nice little 'buyer pack' when I end up selling the car.

Teething trouble with a new model. That's another good reason to have bought one of the old shape run off models instead. The aircon on mine has been completely reliable. .so far.

Very important to get a good long test drive of a Qashqai, and ensure that it's what you want. SWMBO and I found it very comfortable, but the handling was roly-poly and the steering vague and remote-feeling.

It's not a car for the keen driver, but it's a very practical, sensible means of transporting people and luggage from A to B - which is why it's so popular.

I'd agree that the diesel is worth the extra only if you do a high enough mileage to recoup the extra purchase price through fuel savings.
