4x4s - Headlight adjustment on taller vehicles eg 4x4s - Telboy562

Where headlights are higher off the ground than a normal saloon car, do the headlight beams have to be angled more acutely so that they hit the road the same distance away as a saloon car?

I ask this because if not, then I'm not suprised that I'm always blinded by 4x4 headlights. And if not, the law should be changed.

AFAIK the downward angle limits are the same - but since they're downwards then correctly adjusted lights, correctly used, won't blind or dazzle you.

Premium "bling" cars seem to have the most dazzling oncoming lights - but thet's probably due more to their drivers' incompetence than the vehicle design - as it happens for SUVs, cars, and low-slung sports cars.

Or maybe being Premium ie expensive vehicles they are not using conventional lighting but Hi Intnsity Dischrge, so called Angel Eyes,Xenon's etc etc.

My 12 Qashqai (being the top of the range) has these and whilst they're superb for me out in the wilds of Efficks, but (despite being properly dipped and I have checked it) they're probably not quite as wonderful for others.

Standard fitting not a selected option..sorry. Plus people do fit different coloured bulbs which (whilst not more powerful) do seem to look brighter eg Osram Nightbreakers etc.

It's a kind of arms race out there imo.
