Audi TT. 02 plate - No 1st or 2nd gear

Audi TT. 02 plate - No 1st or 2nd gear - spud2117
Just lost 1st & 2nd gear but still have 3,4,5,6 and reverse.
Any ideas or experience of the similar problem and rough idea of cost to put right.

It could be just that a part of the gear linkage has failed or needs adjusting. Shouldn't cost too much if that's the reason.

Didn't Wheeler Dealers do a TT that had no 1st or 2nd gear ? Can't remember what the fix was now though apart from it being something internal in the gearbox.

I remember that episode, didn't the end of the selector fork come off because a rivet had broke, luckly it hadn't trashed the box

Edd repaired it with a nut & bolt

It looked like a mammoth task to get the gearbox out though

For the sake of a horse-shoe nail the battle was lost.

The cost of a rivet and rivetting it = unit cost of €0.20

The cost of a bolt and self-locking jam nut and the action to assemble it =€1.20

Bean counters- the enemies of reliability.
