The optician has told me that Crizal lenses are more effective than an anti-glare coating at night. As they are not particulrly cheap I was wondering if anybody had any experience and/or comment about them?

I've got them - part of the Varilux varifocal specification - don't suffer from glare but then never have.

Some people do suffer from glare/dazzle - I'm not sure that any coating helps them.

The best aid for night driving ( I do suffer from glare ) I have found is opticaid night sight polarised driving glasses. On Amazon £11.55 and a mean score of 4 1/2 stars from 460 reviews : so its not just me.

Are crizal lenses expensive ?

Of course they are. There's all those TV ads to pay for!

I thought polarised glasses were a big NO-NO for night driving - because of the conflict with the lenses and windscreen that light passes through before it gets to yoy.

I don't know if these would work for everybody, but they work for me, and have done so for the past ten years or more.

As well as for driving at night they work very effectively at that peculiar time of twilight when headlights don'r really help because it's not dark enough, but the light is fading making judging distances difficult.

Put them on and it's just like the sun coming out again.

Cheap enough to buy and try.

I take your point RT. However, perhaps there are various level of polarisation ( maybe not possible but..) I have found them the best I've tried and I have tried several - also not just me. Possibly more than just polarised and they fit easily over prescription glasses.

In practise I have found them valuable. Can you point to a good source re problem with polariod ? a genuine request because I would certainly change if I am missing something.

I'm just going from memory - long time back polarised sunglasses and lamininated windscreens seemed to both be popular but the combination wasn't said to be good.

Windscreens may be different now so I can't be definite.

I had a pair which had been left in the car and got too warm - they suddenly went opaque. Fortunately I had the old pair with me.

Apart from that, they were foine.

Thanks RT. Is there an optician in the forum ?
