Happy Pink's Juke going back today - Happy Blue!

After three years and 21,000 miles her Juke Tekna 1.6CVT is going back to the lease company.

Its had a hard life. Driven almost exclusively by my wife who has little mechanical sympathy, average journey length has probably been less than three miles (on engine start - stop basis) and three children plus a little dog.

Nothing I can think of has gone wrong. It has averaged about 31mpg.

What can I say - I liked driving position, the leather seats and general internal trim have worn well although the door card plastics are cheap and nasty.

I hate the harsh ride but I suspect the Evoque she is getting will be no better based upon the test drive we had. Her choice - not mine. I know the ride on 16" wheels is much better so lord knows what the ride on 18" is like..

So farewell little Juke. You were liked but will probably be forgotten.

Hmm. Very gutsy in 1.5 oil burner guise, but otherwise unremarkable, IMHO (I drive one regularly). As you say, interior plastics rather low rent, sat nav and 'infotainment' system a bit naff also. But mostly, tiny rear headroom in what is a reasonably big small car. Yes I know, it's the styling. Presumably not an issue for your good lady if she's just requested more of the same from an Evoque!? Rather have the Qashqui (or however you spell it...)

Purely out of nothing more than curiosity (never yet having done a leasing deal), would I be very wide of the mark in thinking the basic monthly payments for the Evoque might be as little as about £242 ?

One handbag car replaced by yet another! I wonder - was the LR dealer's salesman's first question to HP "and what colour would you like madam?"

I'll never understand to this day why people buy expensive 4x4s then specify huge bling-bling wheel-tyre combinations that ruin the off-road ability (or that in snow, without resorting to buying expensive winter tyres) and on-road comfort, all in the pursuit of 'style'.

Oh well - each to their own. It'll be interesting to see how the Evoque fares on such a lot of short journeys. Best of luck.

Because they buy them as fashion accessories, not as off-roaders.

I have a VW Touareg SE, the base model if you like, came on 19" wheels - the more off-road orientated Escape gets 18" while the sporty R-Line gets 20" - any of these can be "upgraded" on factory order to 21" and there are 22" available as aftermarket accessories.

I bought an extra set of wheels for winter tyres, so got 17" the smallest that fit over the front brakes and with /65 tyres ride a lot better than the /50 that came as standard, let alone the /35 they could be "upgraded" to.

Yes a handbag car....but if that keeps her happy then why complain. We have my wonderful E350CDi estate for family trips and long journeys.

She wasn't going to have one but I got an email with a great take it or leave it lease deal. Smallest engine, 2WD manual gearbox,black only, SE Tech model. Otherwise it was a mini countryman or a jeep renegade. She will miss the reversing camera.

Did she try a Renegade? Supposedly a good car, nothing like Jeeps of old, I'd rather have one over an Evoque for looks, apart from the rear lights that could do with a facelift, looks like someone has stuck a couple of plasters over them.

Well it won't be! It's a subcompact crossover built by Fiat on the Fiat 500X platform - the old Renegade was a trim version of the Wrangler compact SUV built by Jeep in USA/Canada.

Yes and liked it. We thought it a very strong contender until the Evoque deal came along and blew it out of the market. However coming out of the Juke we were surprised by the price of the car and the specification (or lack of it). Even compared to the current Juke range the Renegade is expensive and less well made. It is a little larger, but not that much as to make the difference in price.

I have also heard them called 'spinners' - they are a 'decorative' attachment to car wheels that spin independently of the actual hub. Normally found on cars with huge wheels owned by American rap 'artists' and fans, or 'pimped-up rides' favoured by some 'yoofs'.
