Renault Modus - Wiper Not Switching on And Headlights - 3puddings

Couple of problems have cropped up on my modus

first is that the headlights seem to turn themselves on at random times, apparentley there is a safety feature that the car will turn the headlights on when you turn corners to give more visibility. To be honest this is a b***** nusance, and I like to turn my lights on when I feel the need to use them, not everytime I indicate.

Second is that there is a delay in the wipers comming on after I switch them on. I have reat that this may be down to a faulty bit of wiring.

Anyone got any pointers on where too look

I've noticed a number of new cars have this "helpful" feature of foglights ccoming on as corners are turned.

In my opinion another pointless gimmick for salesmen to plug as a selling point to gormless punters and a probable source of business to the service department when the bulbs fail and are hard to change.

Does this car have auto lights and wipers? Is there a sensor at the top of the windscreen behind the rear view mirror?Another possible is water in the engine bay fuse/relay box.(not uncommon on these)

During the time we owned our Modus I recall having to replace the wiper switch - was an easy enough job. Bought a 2nd hand unit from Ebay and fitted it in less than 10 minutes.

Remove the old one and check the part number carefully as some parts look similar but often have / do not have features you need / do not need (I initially made this mistake).

Do you have the manual for your car ? If so look up operation of lights and then the wipers ,you will see that you have an automated light function that turns the lights on automatically ,it also has an automated function that keeps the lights on for appx 30 seconds /1 minute as a courtesy feature , the wipers have an optional automatic rain detection sensor when activated it will operate the wipers automatically ,if this not selected and your wipers are on manual control you may need to set the delay speed up a bit , if its set to automatic rain sensor the computer /sensor may not register its raining so there could be a delay ,if you had the windscreen replaced they may have not replaced the sensor gel pack .

And then we have the water in the fuse/relay box caused by a design floor ,either side of the bulkhead there are water drains these are moldings that let the water run down and out of the way but they were designed with flaps on them which cause the problem cut the flaps of you don't need them clean up any loose dirt and muck then get a spray can of wax from tool station its clear and then spray the bulk head ,this is after you have checked the fuse/relay box for water damage and cleaned all of the connections .

Iv been through deep floods with my modus and had no problems while iv seen other later cars watered out and stuck mines a 2005 automatic and everything is still working as it should !

The wipers are ok now, but the light issue is still there and is getting worse
