KIA Venga - Vehicle Handover at Dealership - oldroverboy.

Collected my ex demo venga 2 petrol today from NMG Norwich and was given a very comprehensive document 12 pages long to read and sign making me aware of all the various bits of advice and issues possible with a new vehicle.

Clearly presented and not rushed into reading.

Was offered and accepted 3 years servicing for £329 and a full size 15" steel wheel thrown in when I asked for it.

Handover all done correctly too.

Drove 60 miles home..

Can't wait to see the face on the local saleman at the kia dealer in Colchester when he realises I have bought what i wanted and not what he wanted to sell me.

Prompted by your submission I had another look at the Venga.

Now comes with a dual clutch automatic transmission. I see that as a good thing personally. The conventional 4 speed torque converter in my i10 is smooth in use but takes a big toll on emissions and mpg.

They seem to be pushing the SR7. First 3 services for £99 and a grand off.

But it's a 2010 car. One wonders when a replacement is due.

Good NCAP figures and loads of toys on the top models.

Has just been updated, and has proven engines, No fancy 3 cyl turbos for me till they have been around for a lot longer!

I have just px'd my 1.2 rio, after starting to struggle to get out of it. delighted with the seating/access.

I had looked with a friend 18 months ago (who bought) and about 3 weeks ago with a friend who also has issues with getting in and out and wanted to trade his aveo 2 2012 model.

I must say that NMG did an excellent deal for me on a demo, (it's a kia venga 2) and it has enough of the toys for me, and also 6 and a good bit years warranty.

Price/PX were both good and sales service the best I have come across in a while.

Not a bit of Bull droppings in sight!

Point taken - but was it not a cosmetic facelift though? Correct me if I'm wrong. It's the extra height that appeals here. And it would prob. be the "2" spec. too. But with the new DCT transmission though. Much prefer autos theses days.

Driving one 18 months ago made me think, Going with a mate 3 weeks ago made me think more and the driving on the "test drive" did the trick,

I am really impressed with the seating position. if the auto selection is what you like, get a "good test drive", couple of hours if they let you.

The auto is what we would have. That or nothing. If it was half as good to use as the DSG (7 speed) it would be OK. But if it was anything like as bad as the VW ASG, as fitted in the Up/Citigo/Mii then it wouldn't pass muster. It remains to be seen if they would allow an extended drive. Especially as it's a automatic Venga with a new type of transmission in it. A manual Picanto is one thing - this is another. I think they would be likely to suck air through teeth and say there aren't any of those in the system yet sir. However, it won't be straight away. There's a bit longer left on the i10 warranty therefore I'm keen to take advantage of every penny's worth of that before it goes. My relationship with Hyundai in the early days was tenuous, to say the least.

Why tenuous KB? Do we want more of a relationship with dealers than a quick chat at the service desk anyway? Buying a car is like any other purchase surely and as nothing more than routine servicing and consumables has been needed for the last 3 cars, Hyundai, Ford & Citroën with c310k miles between them why would I need a relationship?

I readily admit to using a word that can be taken to have a diversity of meanings. My mistake - I used the wrong word.

My relationship (yes, it WAS a relationship) with the Hyundai dealer and then with Hyundai UK in the early days, weeks and months of ownership wasn't as you describe. Agreed, we, ideally, WANT the experience you have been fortunate to have had in your own case. Others are not so lucky.

It would take far too long to indicate the regrettable events in my own case and you probably wouldn't want to hear them (why would you?) but not everyone has the uneventful experience in owning a new car that you have been blessed with. If you HAD then you WOULD want some sort of relationship with the people you've just paid many thousands of pounds to, and who you look to for a degree of responsibility to fix it if problems occur or if they haven't given you the sort of service you reasonably expect.

Fair comment KB and having experienced the pain of using an insurers approved repairer (Christmas day deer incident) and I might get my car back on Saturday, I have some sympathy. However having no relationship hasn't stopped me being reasonably compensated for awful service.
