HJ Moderators - Re Kia Advert. - Wackyracer
Please could one of the wonderful moderators get something done about this Kia advert at the top of all the Forum pages. While I understand that advertising is necessary. Please could it not keep covering the top 2 or 3 lines of the posts and topics. I can't even find a way to close this oversized pop up window it has :(
HJ Moderators - Re Kia Advert. - oldroverboy.

There is a new breed of pop up adsand it is worse in windows 8 and 10.

I have now resorted to adblock plus which cuts some down to size (on chrome), but on android devices and windows mobile it is horrendous. microsoft and google want us to watch the ads and is difficult to avoid. other option is on 1e11 and before block popups completely set privacy to maximum.

I have given up trying to read HJ and the daily mail on my windows phone.

Many would say being unable to have daily wail propaganda anywhere in your life a good thing, all you need now is some way to prevent the state broadcaster from beaming their doctored version of events in too, perfect?

:-)

A couple of observations: I don't think the moderators (moderator?) are in a position to do anything which depends on the way the site functions and the technology involved.

I don't get anything really intrusive - certainly nothing like WR describes, but I don't know what device he's using. I'm on a PC, my browser is Opera 34 (set to a high level of privacy), I use a VPN and I'm running Ghostery, which blocks a lot of ads. I don't get pop-ups unless I allow them.

I switched Ghostery off for a moment and there was a big scrolling Kia ad above the list of posts, but it's not obscuring anything. It is eye-catching and horribly distracting, I admit. I switched Ghostery straight back on.

Well, this is what I was seeing www.dropbox.com/s/ya8droios0xougj/HJ_KIA_AD.JPG?dl...0

But, It is now working properly. So many thanks to the person or persons who have fixed the issue.

I haven't seen the ad, for reasons already mentioned, however if you were to avoid the eye wateringly awful wheels shown which spoil it, the Optima pictured is one of the nicest looking modern cars around, possibly the nicest looking IMHO.

I thought exactly the same gb and have consequently received my new Optima brochure/am awaiting my local dealer to receive their demonstrator in order to take it for a spin!

The top-end No.4 variant looks 'loaded' to the gills?

Be interesting to hear your report on the car if you would be so kind, i'm especially interested in the engine gearbox and parking brake.

Lovely looking car, its just itching for a nice 3 litre V6 or 2 litre turbo petrol under the bonnet driving through a TC auto to the right (rear) wheels, which will be steelies with trims wrapped with 215/60 x 16 tyres, i thankyou..:-)

Oh and a proper estate option, yes.

On my (Windows 7) PC, using Firefox combined with the popup/ad blockers on my internet security software, Firefox itself and Adblock Plus (including the pop-up ad-on - ABP seems to work far better on Firefox than Chrome) works very nicely 99.99% of the time.

I don't mind a few unobtrusive ads, but some sites are ridiculous (Daily Telegraph being my pet peeve on that score - my Android tablet crawls [even after including ABP on both Chrome and Firefox, though both are cut-down versions on the PC software] and most ads still get through).

HJ Moderators - Re Kia Advert. - Wackyracer

Kia is one of those makes that I would consider buying, a family friend bought a Kia Carens new in 2003 and only recently changed it for another new Kia.

Although I thought it was a very ugly thing with a terrible gear change, it proved very reliable with just regular servicing at Kia and a few issue which I fixed. IIRC the jobs I did was a broken drivers door handle (the plastic was cheap and nasty), I changed the winscreen washer pump as it had burned out, Fitted a new serpentine belt as it was slipping and last but not least, I had to redo the rear brakes after Kia had not located the pads properly and it was causing the brake to bind and uneven wear of the pad which was operating on the disk at approx a 30 degree angle.

Glad you've found a way round, Wackyracer.

Can I just remind people once again that IT and technical issues aren't my department as moderator. I'm merely a volunteer: if you have such an issue please E-mail kalpesh@honestjohn.co.uk. Kalpesh is the IT expert on HJ's staff and is very helpful.

Many thanks for that Avant, I had no idea who deals with these things.

for mobile devices the best solution would be to have an HJ app, this works well for the DM
