To paraphrase Mick Dundee

'''nah that aint a jump pack...this is a jump pack''

I've seen a lot of forum discussions elsewhere about these new tech jump packs, i have no idea how bad they might be nor how long lived they might be, i know the one i linked to (which can be found slightly cheaper) will last years if kept charged and will start just about any 12volt engine, however you won't be keeping it the glove box.

The first two weigh less than a kilogram - starts a 5.6 litre engine - Hmmm.

The MM one is pretty - But why not just buy a spare battery and a set of jump leads?

But why not just buy a spare battery and a set of jump leads?

Power losses due to lead length, no problem starting a 1.4 petrol, but when you need to start something like a bog standard Transit or 2.5/3 litre Japanese Diesel its a whole new game, i used to carry serious jump leads but have still ended up with two and sometimes three sets of good leads in parallel to start a completely flat Transit/Terrano, yet these better jump packs such as the 4000 above, with their short but thick leads, have no trouble whizzing them over.

The other reason which GB hasn't pointed out is the jump packs don't use wet lead acid batteries but, sealed gel types which can be stuck in the boot without the worry of them leaking.

I looked at these new smaller ones with Lithium batteries as they were on sale locally at half price but, there are many mixed reviews about them online. Mainly the poor reviews were people trying to use them at extremely low temperatures.

If the leads are pukka copper leads it's not a problem - I have started a tractor or two with mine from the L200 battery, I've also got a 90AH slave battery for the workshop which will start just about anything.

Mine are proper 400 amp multistrand welding cable leads with brass welding earth clamps with the terminals crimped and soldered.

The Halfords-type aluminium leads are a waste of time and money.

This product is stated to have 9 amphour capacity. (9000mAh sounds more impressive than 9Ah).

Elementary physics suggests it can only supply the advertised 720 amps for 45 seconds.

Or am I missing something here?

Sent it back would charge up from the mains

Over one I have seen are

DBPOWER and ANYPRO

I need a reliable one but not heard of any of these companies?

Anyone recommend and decent one.

Perhaps I'm missing the point, but presumably it's only intended to start the engine, so if the engine is otherwise okay it should only take seconds to start?

Anyway it looks like the OP is trying something else now..

For the last 12 years or so I've had a 100Ahr LR Disco battery and a set of 800A jump leads in the garage. I've used this combo to start a variety of vans and cars. It's never failed me yet and cost peanuts.
