Mazda 6 - Mazda 6 Stalling problems - Fridge03

Hello all,

Been having a few problems lately with my Mazda 6 2003 2.0TD TS.

Its got a FSH, and was only serviced about 1500 miles ago.

Its been fine since up until the past few days. Basically when accelerating, no problem. However when its not in gear it struggles to hold the revs, and eventually dies. To get it started again, I have to have my foot on the gas to keep the revs up. Sometimes it starts fine, other times it struggles. Also the revs jump from as low as 400-500rpm up to 1500rpm.

Its very annoying as basically, its cuts out at roundabouts, traffic lights etc.

There are no warning lights on the engine, doesn't matter if the car is hot or cold.

To make things even more confusing, sometimes it works fine, no issues at all!

Any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

It sounds very much like a well known problem of a fuel pump issue. Somewhere on this forum there is someone who found a diesel specialist in the midlands who repairs countless number of these per day for the same fault and did it while u wait. Its about 4 hrs if I remember and few hundred quid. Better than 1500 for a replacement !

I seem to remeber its a seal or valve that fails, but Mazda will only replace the pump.

Thanks for your toughts.

Could it be the fuel pump if my compsumption is as good as its normally is?

Could this also be due to a relay fault? The relay to the fuel pump could be faulty, which might explain the intermittent behaviour.

Thanks for your thoughts guys.

I took it to my local garage, who have never seen me wrong. They changed the fuel filter, cleaned the injectors and lines. They said it was the worst filter they had ever seen!

Anyway, they said see how you get on, and it was great for a day. Then the problem reared its ugly head again. I took it back to them, and they said give it a couple of days to allow the cleaner to run through the system and clear the rubbish out. I was dubious, but have given it a go, a garage that doesn't want more money! Rare!

Anyway, I've tried a little trick of running the car without the fuel filler cap in place, to see if its my breather pipe/valve. Its running great again with it off, so could this be a possible cause?
