04 1.6 Ghia Steering creak - Warranty or not ? - charlt0n55
I have a 2004 Ford C-Max 1.6 Ghia (Petrol) owned since new.

The car is still under warranty and I had noticed a steering creak when pulling away very slowly and turning steering either left or right. The creak comes from the direction of the nearside wheel and can be quite clearly heard inside the car.

I asked my local dealer to investigate at the last service and they advised me that the problem is not covered under the warranty.

The problem will only be recitified with a new strut at a cost of £300.

Why is this problem not covered under the warranty?

And do I really need to replace the whole strut as advised?

Any help gratefully appreciated

Used car dealers offer them and there are third party Warranty companies.

I bought a 3 year warranty with the car from new and then bought another 3 year warranty when that ran out.

It has definitely saved me money!

It depends on the wording of the warranty, if it's not specifically mentioned as being covered by warranty then it's unlikely to be covered. It's worth getting a 2nd opinion in case it's a track rod end, they cost less to replace.

Its probably classed as a wear and tear suspension part.

I think the wear and tear option might be right.

I have tried to get a second opinion but there is a charge of £50 just to assess.

This seems like throwing good money after bad.

I am pretty annoyed that the warranty does not cover it.

I have spoken to Fords again and the actual problem is strut upper bearings creaking.

So new top suspension mounts are required?

It may cost £300 @ Fraud, but would an indy not charge somewhat less to replace a top mount? Are C-Max struts one piece, replace the lot items?

When you say you have spoken to Fords-did you or do you mean you have spoken to the dealer?.The Ford warranty is for one year by Ford with the next two years covered by the dealer.Any further warranty must be thro' an insurance policy.
