Texting car details by mobile - Mick Snutz
Being a curious sort of fellow, I texted my reg number to 86007 and it duly provided technical info about my car. No great shakes there but it also informs me when the car was registered and how many owners its had.

Does that info come from the DVLA?

Presumably if it does, the DVLA must make money from providing non-personal information to companies like this?

{moderators footnote - please be aware that texting this number will cost you £3.00 (2 x £1.50 replies from carspotter.co.uk) plus your standard text messaging charge}

According to reuters (tinyurl.com/nhr5pk )

"The information for CarSpotter's service comes from the same companies that supply data to UK car dealers."
