99 2.3 V5 - Head Gasket blown - graham sherlock
Just had the sad news that the head gasket has gone on the car. Is it a big/expensive job or is it more then the car's value?

It's 5.7 hours, so not too bad. Not a common complaint on these unless the anti-freeze isn't changed; what's the symptom?

Was beginning to use more oil then normal + emulsified oil in filler cap. Can it be done by a competent DIY, i.e. me + Haynes (if they do one), or does it need specialist with tools?

Does it being a V5 make it more of a problem?

Those are far from conclusive indicators of HGF. Have you had the header tank sniffed for hydrocarbons.

Don't overlook leaky oil coolers on VAG vehicles either.
