Hi Some help please, had a w124 which I really liked and only sold due to its rusting front wings. Would like to buy a merc diesel auto, probably a C class so question is :- have they fixed the body rot issues that plagued them in the 90s ( and beyond) and from what model year?
Alternatively whilst I suspect current MB build quality is not to W124 standards can you suggest something else: the car I'm considering is a C270 on a 51 PLate.
Thanks

Check the paint very carefully some you look at this old are terrible considering the supposed quality of the car.Rust was still a problem look under door rubbers, engine cross member, rear brake discs. No where near as good as the earlier C class which was built by engineers while the newer ones are built by accountants.

From a Mercedes forum:
C CLASS -203 series- saloon and estates: -
All steel panels were galvanised from Quarter 2 2003 production onwards.
During the previous six months (Q4 2002 + Q1 2003) the process was
gradually introduced on the production line and therefore some vehicles
were galvanised during this lead-up period, but not all.

Many thanks so a 53 plate on should be ok.

Make sure you get with the Mobilo warranty intact, then you're covered anyway.

Hello
A 53 plate might be ok but check when it was actually built rather than when it was registered.
