I have been offered an N reg micra fro £650. It has a years MOT, 2 months tax and a brand new clutch. Is this reasonable? It's a trade sale but no warranty.
Thanks for any advice! I need it for my daughter. Funnily enough I can't get her covered on my own new MX-5!

neigbour gave his N reg Micra to the 17 yr old next door. His valuation was it was worth £100 - The lad is insuring it TPF&T at a cost of £1000-£1300 for 12 mth cover.
The price if the car is almost irrelevant when faced with £1000+ insurrance

While I'm not sure I'd pay £650 for one unless it was a complete minter, any half-decent Micra is worth way more than £100 even at that age. Micras are proven long-lasters, and it's entirely conceivable that an N-reg example could have another 5-10 years ahead of it, given that every other 20-year-old car you see on the roads is a Micra pretty much.

Can't say I see many (any in fact!) 20 year old Micras, mechanically they are good but the bodies are well shot by the 20 years mark!

That insurance seems quite cheap. I just stuck details into confused.com, and cheapest quote for a 998cc 1996 Micra worth £100 and in Insurance Group 3 for a 17-year-old is £2,300.
At that price surely it's cheaper to get taxis everywhere

you can beat that deal flunky
£1700 boys
£1200 girls

still a lot of minicabs....

yes but we all have to get on the treadmill sometime

I paid £700 at 21 for a 1.6 Megane.... And I needed that to commute. Seems more reasonable.

Do Micras last? I read somewhere they are designed to last 7 years, though of course they 'last' longer. Mine required quite a lot of servicing at about 8 and 9 years of age including underbody welding making it expensive to run, which is why I got rid of it.

Knocked them done to £500! Insurance for a 17 yr old girl was £568 TPFT which I thought wasn't bad considering she is still on a provisional and has only been driving a few weeks and we live near Bristol.
Now whether my nerves will stand the practice sessions remains to be seen!
Thanks for all the opinions

It's a trade sale but no warranty.
As far as I am aware, *any* trade sale must be accompanied by some sort of warranty.

[all trade sales need warrany]

I was thinking of the general public who buy cars from traders. Is it the case that there must be some sort of warranty in this circumstance?
