MOT dates - cub leader
How far in advance can you get your MOT Test done and still have it as valid 12 months from the date it is currently due?

Situation is that my car is due an MOT on 6th June, I am told that you can usually get the MOT done earlier in the month and have it post dated to be valid from the current date (i.e. have test done on 1st June but MOT certificate valid from 6th) Is this in fact possible or am i getting completely the wrong end of the stick.

thanks

You may take your car any time in the calendar month before the due date. Provided you present the old certificate (*) and it passes (!) you will get a new certificate valid until 12 months from expiry of old cert. In your case, then, any time after 6th May, and cert will be valid until 6th June 2007. Date of cert is date of test, so it's possible to have 13 months MOT.

* May not be necessary if the cert you have is a new computerised one, as the computer may automatically post date the cert. Then again it is a Government computer system....
