Peugeot tachometer - John Ryder
The tachometer on my Peugeot 306 1.9 Turbo diesel works only intermittently, with no apparent reason for the failure. The sensor has been taken off and cleaned and the connection has been cleaned, to no avail. Any suggestions, please,in layman's terms?

This happened on my Pug DT and I never sorted it - just sold it
Re: Peugeot tachometer - Big Vern
Where is the sensor? Don't know about Pugs but on a Renault 19 TD I had the i/p for the rev counter was taken from the o/p voltage of the alternator (Petrol cars take i/p from distributor cap) If this is the problem, your battery will start to become unreliable, so look at the alternator before you replace the battery. I got away with replacing the brushes rather than the whole unit (pence rather than pounds) also check tension of belt.

It is always possible that you have a sticking needle in the actual tachometer,if this is the case a tap on the face of the dial will sometimes free it and prove the problem.Worth a try.
