405 td non starter - duggie
Having problems starting my 405 td, the glow plug heater light on the dash fails to come on, the glowplugs are not heating up and so the car fails to start, anyone have any ideas? is there a fuse or relay for this system?
Many thanks. Duggie

Disconnect the the supply cable from the glowplugs - on your 405 it's probably connected to number two plug. Put a multimeter on the end of the supply cable and get someone to turn on the ignition switch to the glowplug position. You should get a reading of 12v for seven seconds or so. If you don't, the relay may be duff. You could also use a piece of thick cable from the battery pos terminal on to the plugs, held for ten secs, then try a start.

Check the electrical return from the engine/gearbox unit to the battery - there will be a strap somewhere. Mine was left untightened after a clutch replacement and the heavy current demanded by the glowplug system had no return to the battery and so couldn't flow properly. I had replaced the relay before I discovered this...
